It sounds like a modest release. In reality, it says almost everything about how we build.
Why we build it ourselves
Founder Jeroen Decker is clear about the thinking behind it:
“Including features like this is exactly what Phase 2 is about. We're building a complete, all-encompassing EHR, and we develop as much of it ourselves as we possibly can — so our clients don't have to connect to a dozen external suppliers, each with their own contract and their own monthly invoice.”
That choice has a direct effect on the people we serve. Every feature we build in-house is one subscription a healthcare entrepreneur doesn't have to sign, one integration they don't have to maintain, and one cost line they can strike from their budget. Drastically lower costs, and a better system in the market.
A deliberate break with how software is usually sold
This is a clear break with the standard model in healthcare software. Most suppliers run their own app store, where customers pay again — and often again after that — to actually use the functionality they thought they were buying.
Jeroen puts it bluntly:
“It's like buying a car expecting it to do what was promised, only to find out afterwards that the steering wheel, the rear-view mirror and the odometer have to be ordered from a different supplier before you can drive without worrying. That's a very strange idea, and it's one we simply can't get behind.”
So does Phase 2 build everything and integrate with nothing?
No — certainly not. If a client wants to connect to an external party, they can, and easily. Phase 2 is built on the newest technology, which makes integration remarkably simple. A number of established applications are connected as standard, such as Vecozo and Zorgdomein, simply because that works better for everyone.
But we look at externally offered functionality with a very critical eye. The question we keep asking ourselves is the same one, every time:
“Can we develop this ourselves for our client, so they aren't pushed into unnecessary extra costs?”
If the answer is yes, we build it. That costs us time and investment. But if it means delivering a substantially better product to our clients, we'll make that choice every single time.
What this means in practice
Our choices translate into concrete advantages:
- 🔐 Secure, compliant mailing directly inside Phase 2
- 💸 No additional subscription and no per-feature pricing
- 🔗 Standard integrations with parties such as Vecozo and Zorgdomein
- 🧩 Open to any external connection a client genuinely wants
- 🚀 Built on modern technology, so integrating is simple rather than painful
Secure mail is live today. And it won't be the last feature that arrives quietly, works properly, and doesn't come with an invoice attached.
